HEAD OF CAMP

The Head of Camp will hold responsibility for the management and
delivery of all aspects of Barretstown Camp and Programme. Reporting
to the People and Programme Director, this role will provide strong
leadership for the Camp Team and ensure that child and youth centered
programming, therapeutic recreation and a positive camp culture is
present throughout. The successful candidate will have responsibility
for ensuring all camp activity is delivered in line with accreditation
bodies and health and safety requirements, safeguarding policies and
for ensuring that all activities are delivered in line with Standard
Operational Procedures.

The Head of Camp will work closely with the Senior Leadership and
Operations Team to plan the camp calendar, budgets and camper numbers
for each year. The appointee will lead on the scheduling and delivery
for camp team training to ensure that staff and volunteers are
supported to provide the most enjoyable and safe experience for all
Barretstown campers. The successful candidate will have a
qualification in education, youth work, therapeutic recreation or
other related field with prior experience in a residential camp
environment or leading teams in a youth/child environment.

The Head of Camp will provide strong leadership for the camp team, be
a champion, role model, trainer, manager, and motivator to ensure
child/youth centered programming, therapeutic recreation and Camp
Culture is present throughout all of camp. This is a permanent
full-time role.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Manage and lead Camp.
* Lead and oversee the career development of the Camp Management
Team.
* Ensure all teams across camp are working well together, staying
camper focused, and implementing therapeutic recreation in their areas
of responsibility.
* Oversee logistics are in place for each camp, identifying areas
for improvement.
* Ensure activities are being delivered as per Standard Operational
Procedures and identify areas for improvement where required.
* Ensure all camp activity is delivered in line with accreditation
bodies and health and safety requirements and the implementation of
all safeguarding procedures.
* Ensure all camper behaviour support is facilitated to a high
standard in line with our behaviour support and safeguarding policies.
* Become the Named Person for child safeguarding.
* Develop new and innovative programmes for campers.
* Oversee the development of our Camper Leadership Programme and
Young Adult Programme.
* Complete reports on each camp to a high standard, including any
incidents/accidents and information for weekly camp review meetings.
* Support HR with staff recruitment.
* Lead on the scheduling and delivery for camp team training using
consultants and external facilitators as part of the training delivery
team.
* Lead on the training and support given to camp volunteers each
year.
* Ensure all payroll information is complete and information passed
to the Camp Operations Manager.
* Work closely with the Facilities Team on camp security and the
maintenance needs of camp.
* Work closely with other members of the team to plan the camp
calendar, budgets, and camper numbers for each year.
* Manage the camp budget.
* Review family and Coyne Research feedback on camp and implement
improvements where required.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS:

* Qualification in education, youth work, therapeutic recreation or
other related field.
* Experience leading teams in a youth/child centered environment.
* Strong leadership and motivation skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Good report writing skills.
* Sound understanding of health and safety requirements in a
residential camp setting.
* Ability to work flexible hours – this role may involve evening
and weekend work.
